Job vs Asthma Family Finances?

Hello, My husband and I have been together for 6 years and married for 4. We now have an adorable little girl who is almost 9 months old. He had a child from a previous marriage who was adopted last month by his ex-wifes new husband. Our daughter was diagnosed with Asthma when she was only 5 months old but has had it since she was born. Our daughters doctor told me that I need to be a stay at home Mom in order to take care of our daughter because most of the daycares in our area are un-able to deal with her special needs for her asthma. However financially we can’t afford to loose my income and my boss is definetly not happy about the number of days I’m missing due to her condition. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
My husband and I already live very frugal lives and don’t spend any thing on expensive extra’s we don’t go out we don’t do much of anything but work and give medicines. The daycare she is at is about a block from my home and 10 minutes from my office. However she is closing her daycare in about a month and none of the others are equipped nor want the liability risk of dealing with an asthmatic infant. I am more than willing to take any measures necessary to get her what she needs even if that means me loosing my income. We already live in a rental home that doesn’t have any allergens and they are sending her to a specialist this month. I’m aware that this is a serious condition but I can’t seem to get any assistance in dealing with the financial reprocussions. Can an infant with asthma apply for SSI?

Asthma is VERY serious and can be life threatening! I know two people who’ve died from it and another who has been clinically dead THREE times! Your doctor IS right that most daycares and even schools (where there’s only a part-time nurse, and your kid has to run to the office to get an inhaler!)…are bad for kids w/severe asthma.
Maybe your husband could get another job, or you could sell your house and move someplace cheaper. Also consider government assistance, though you may not like it, both for the family AND your daughter. This is serious business, and your child should ALWAYS come before your lifestyle!
Visit a few of the sites below (medline is very good!) and follow the links there to resources for families with asthmatic children. One of the sites also discusses ways to control asthma triggers in your house and the environment, which is very important.
Good luck to you!
(I have severe asthma and it’s really life-changing. Don’t understimate it!).
Someone below mentioned “maintenance druge”; albuteral is NOT one of them. That’s why they call it a “rescue” inhaler. I take inhaled Azmacor and Intal, oral Accolate and ONLY use the albuterol if necessary. IT works but in the summer, ONLY if I stay in an air-conditioned space. It stinks, but there it is…

Is she on any maintenance drugs? My son was on albuterol for a while and that seem to work. Is there a daycare close by your job where you can monitor her closer or in case of emergency? Also, you have to make sure the daycare knows how to treat kid with asthma. Mine had it and I always left the machine nebulizer with them and they were pretty good about giving treatments and also calling me when things got pretty bad. Fortunately for me, I was only 5 minutes away. You could have friends and relative that live close by also check up on her while at daycare.
